Tour Our Home

You Are Here: Home

Welcome to our Neo-Victorian home tour! It is definitely a work in progress, and no where near complete, so bear with me as I continue to chip away through each room. It’s been a slow process and little by little, I’m attempting to make my home a place where we love to exist in!

The Exterior:

A blue Victorian home with a green garden filled with topiaries, trees and roses, and a black wrought iron fence.

I must admit, when I first saw the little blue house online, I was sold! The sweet little Neo-Victorian home was built in 2003, and had so much charm and character from the peaked roof, stone chimney and cylindrical pillars supporting the front wrap around porch. I couldn’t believe a home this new could have so much old character!

Other than the grass and some large evergreens, we added all the landscape you see. The roses, spiraling junipers, boxwood hedges, and arborvitaes were added when we moved into our home. You can read more about my English-style inspired garden here.

The Entryway/Stairway

A cream staircase and stairway walls with three framed pictures, and a closet door with a hanging flower basket.
A cream stairway bannister, carpeted stairs, and an entryway rug in front of a door.

I recently painted our stairway and entryway a creamy white, and mushroom color to lighten and brighten this once dreary space. Since we are currently on a tight budget, I had to do this project under $90.

The Living Room:

A pink, cream and grey living room filled with furniture, large windows, and a fireplace with a black t.v. above it.

The living room is probably the one room that is most finished in my Neo-Victorian home. I love using a neutral palette with pops of color. I combined neutral grey and cream together for the larger pieces. The walls, carpeting, couches, and most furniture are all neutral. However, the curtains are a beautiful botanical-chinoiserie style that has lots of colors including coral, blue and green. The blue and white ginger jars also add a pretty splash of color as well.

I’m sure you also noticed my t.v. above the fireplace. It really is the best focal point in the room for the t.v. However, I’m the first to admit it’s not the prettiest look. I have my sights set on a t.v. that looks like art on your walls, but that will need to wait a while. For now, it’s old trusty above the fireplace!

Living in Boise, there’s a lack of boutique stores that carry unique decor items. And let’s be honest, even if we did, I doubt I could afford what they carried anyways! We do have a few generic big box stores that sell furniture, so it’s been a bit of a challenge trying to get a curated look in my home with fewer options. Luckily, online shopping definitely helps, as well as Facebook Marketplace. The lack of options has challenged me to get my creative juices flowing as well!

This little corner of my living room is a great example of this. The picture frames with the Greek intaglios was a fun and easy d.i.y. project I did, and it turned out beautiful!

The Dining Room

A dining room filled with windows and curtains, chandelier, table and chairs, buffet table topped with lamps and mirror.

Remember I mentioned I thought my Neo-Victorian home had so much character? Well, that applied mostly to the exterior of my home. A lot of the inside is original, builder grade materials from the year my home was built. My goal for this room is to add as much character to it as I can, as it had a lot of elements from the big box store that I’ve slowly been trying to chip away at.

The most recent purchase I made in this room are the French cane back chairs. I just love the warmth they add to the space, and how they tie in with my consignment store mirror above the buffet table. I found a gorgeous dupe for the chair but it is quite spendy!

I’m still dreaming about a gorgeous French country chandelier, or perhaps a brass lantern chandelier to replace the big box store one I currently have. One day perhaps.

The Master Bathroom

A greige double sink bathroom vanity with large mirror, and a white countertop topped with a tray, flowers, and soap.

Our master bathroom was a forced decision as we ended up with an explosive water leak behind the shower wall! This was a budget remodel for sure, as we hadn’t planned on remodeling our old bathroom for a long time. I wanted this space to stand the test of time, so I went with a neutral color palette and classic subway tile.

White quartz countertops are easy to wipe down and clean. The cabinets are Sherwin Williams Shiitake. It’s a beautiful mushroom color, and a neutral palette that should stand the test of time.
