A mini pinecone wreath makes for one of the easiest DIY projects! Even the most un-crafty of people will be able to pull this one off. This project requires a mere 4 products: a grapevine wreath, a bag of mini pinecones, a hot glue gun, and a cream satin ribbon to finish it off. You will end up with a wreath that will look store bought at a fraction of the cost! Grab a cup of coffee, plug in that hot glue gun and let’s get crafty!

A Minimalist Project

I can’t believe it’s Fall already! As much as I love this season, I’m very much a minimalist when it comes to Fall decor. I love projects that are budget friendly, but don’t look it! My favorite way to decorate is utilizing things found in nature. Not only is it free, but it saves storage space. Most items can be thrown out only to be re-created the following year. This mini pinecone wreath however, is a project worth saving! A grapevine wreath and mini pinecones are long lasting materials that will keep in your storage for years to come.

Hanging a wreath adds a beautiful touch during any season. I love Fall wreaths since they often use natural materials. Natural elements always blend in beautifully with whatever decor you have in your home. This year, I’ve hung my mini pinecone wreath on my dining room mirror and I love how it looks! The wreath adds a nice contrast against the ornate gold frame. The white satin ribbon adds another soft touch as well!

I loved sitting down and taking my time with this project. Making a mini pinecone wreath was a relaxing activity that forced me to slow down and enjoy the process.

It really didn’t take me that long to do either. I finished about half of it, took a break, did some laundry, and came back to finish the rest afterwards. In total, I probably spent about 30-40 minutes on this wreath, but it was time well spent!

Can I Use Pinecones From My Backyard?

You can use pinecones found in nature of course, but they will most likely need to be baked before crafting. Oftentimes pinecones come with bugs and sap, and I’m sure you don’t want either to be on your wreath. Bake them around 275 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 20-30 minutes to kill the bugs and dry out the sap.

How Many Mini Pinecones Will I Need?

For a 12 inch grapevine wreath you will need approximately 200 mini pinecones. I purchased my bag of 200 pinecones off Amazon, and it was the perfect amount for my wreath!

How Do I Hang My Mini Pinecone Wreath?

The secret to hanging a wreath are command hooks. I used a medium-sized command hook and stuck it onto my mirror. I hung my wreath onto the command hook and taped the ribbon onto the top of the mirror. The satin ribbon isn’t actually holding my wreath up at all, even though it looks like it is.

Materials For a Mini Pinecone Wreath:

  • 12 inch grapevine wreath (I purchased mine at Walmart)
  • 1 bag of mini pinecones (200 count)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Cream satin ribbon

How To Make a Mini Pinecone Wreath

  1. Squeeze the hot glue on the bottom of your pinecone. Be generous with your glue ensuring you cover the entire bottom. (A tiny dab of glue won’t hold your pinecone in place).
  2. Stick the pinecone on your grapevine wreath and hold for a few seconds to allow the glue to cool.
  3. Place mini pinecones next to one another as your completely cover your grapevine wreath.
  4. Once completely covered, allow your mini pinecone wreath to sit a few minutes allowing the glue to harden completely.
  5. Finish off your wreath with a pretty satin ribbon.

Tips/Variations:

  • Pull strings of hot glue off your wreath once it has entirely cooled.
  • If you have gaps where you can see the glue underneath, simply fill it in by placing a tiny pinecone in the area.
  • Mix it up! You can also use larger pinecones with the mini pinecones to add a little interest.
  • To make a larger wreath, use larger pinecones. It will save you time, unless you like sticking tiny pinecones on a giant wreath!
  • Tie the bow on the bottom of the wreath instead of the top, letting it hang down.
